Hulu… has quickly become one of the leaders in online video. Providing professional content from major networks and movie studios, the site has welcomed millions across the U.S. who want to watch streams of their favorite shows or movies online.
I’m certainly one of them. But after catching up on Battlestar Galactica and watching the same five episodes of The Office over and over again to memorize Dwight Schrute’s lines, I’m left wanting more.
That’s why I’ve compiled this list of five television shows that I’d like to see added to Hulu.

My CNET News colleague Charles Cooper’s kvetching about YouTube not offering a download option for political videos seems to be answered. Such an option now appears right underneath the player on certain videos, including President-elect Barack Obama’s weekly addresses….
While users have long been able to grab YouTube clips both with Flash rippers and H.264 stream downloaders, this would be the first time such an option has appeared on the site as an official offering. The new option gives users a full-quality H.264 file–the very same copy that’s sent out to YouTube-capable set top boxes and iPhones.

In a post on the company’s developer blog on Friday, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced some changes to the management of its third-party developer projects. This encompasses both the Facebook platform, which opened up the social network to third-party applications and took off like wildfire when it launched in 2007, and the newer Facebook Connect, which brings Facebook log-in credentials to participating outside sites….
No employees have departed the company or were laid off in the process, a Facebook spokesman told CNET News in an e-mail.

Yahoo has fired up a major part of its Yahoo Open Strategy, the ability to broadcast blog postings, tweets, photo uploads, Yelp reviews, and other activity to members of your online social circle.
The change to Yahoo Updates makes the company potentially more competitive with services such as FriendFeed and Facebook, which do much the same thing, though they also offer to show activity on other services including Amazon, Digg, and Google Reader.

What makes a social network work? Is it the design of the site? The advertising on it? The logo? It’s none of these things, of course.
It’s the people.
MySpace proves that you don’t need pretty design, and Facebook shows that if you start by identifying an audience (college students) and give them a better way to do something they’re already doing (getting to know each other), it is enough to get a social project off the ground.
