This is what happens when Microsoft tries to take over not just a company but also a community: a number of Flickr users have launched a group opposing the attempted acquisition.

Right before we closed the nominations for last year’s Webware 100 awards, I wrote a post about there being too many social networks in the running. Apparently, all you genius Web 2.0 entrepreneurs skipped school that day, because for the 2008 Webware 100, we have, again, way too many social networks competing.

Serial entrepreneur Michael Robertson has started a new business-information site called Dealipedia.
Robertson, founder of such companies as MP3.com and Linspire, is relying on the wisdom of crowds to supply information on IPOs, mergers, acquisitions, closings, bankruptcies, and investments. He said that Wikipedia has proven that allowing the masses to provide and edit information works.
Dealipedia is a “combination (of) news, reference and perhaps a bit of gossip for business deals,” Robertson said in an e-mail to CNET News.com.

As expected, MySpace has announced that it will launch its developer platform on Tuesday morning.
MySpace, which is owned by News Corp.’s Fox Interactive Media, is one of the most high-profile social media companies to be working with Google’s new OpenSocial standard…. All applications for the MySpace Developer Platform will be OpenSocial-compatible with MySpace-specific extensions.
